“The Lightning Thief” is the first of Rick Riordan Books to be released about Percy Jackson and the Olympians. The main individual can be described as 12-year-old dyslexic child who finds out that he is the modern-day child of a Greek god. If you ever read “The Lightning Thief” , you may have had a few questions about the book and the author.

Many wonder where Rick Riordan has gotten all of the information on the mythical creatures, gods and goddesses in the books. The truth is that Rick has been reading and loved Greek mythology since he was just a child.  As a sixth grade teacher, Rick also taught the subject to his students, so as an author, he was familiar with many of the mythical creatures and monsters already. Rick admits that he did have to do some research on the subject, but not much.

Rick Riordan decided he wanted to be an author since he was a teenager, but found out it wasn’t easy. When he first began he received lots of rejections, but he kept at it. The key is to practice, get better, and never give up.

The Percy Jackson series is now made up of 5 Rick Riordan books, with the first having been made into a movie, the Lightening Thief.

While the books are geared towards children 10 and older, the movie and books are attracting kids, teens and adults alike. Be sure to check out all of the Percy Jackson books and other Rick Riordan books.
